MOGENS LYKKETOFT VISITS IFU TO DISCUSS THE SDGs

Wednesday 19 April, former Chairman of the UN General assembly UNGA70, Mr Mogens Lykketoft, visited IFU to discuss the 17 Sustainable Development Goals

IFU is in the process of preparing a special fund in support of the SDGs and in relation to this, Mr Lykketoft was invited to IFU to share his view on the SDGs from a political level at the United Nations, where he served as President of the General Assembly from September 2015 to September 2016.

The SDGs were approved by 136 Heads of State in September 2015 under the chairmanship of Mr Lykketoft, and he continues to support the UN 2030 agenda by tirelessly promoting the goals.

As former Minister of Finance in Denmark and Speaker of the Danish Parliament, Mr Lykketoft also made comments about the SDGs and political aspirations in a Danish context. For instance, he emphasised that the SDGs not only represent a tremendous challenge but also open huge business opportunities for the private sector.

With the planned establishment of an SDG fund, IFU hopes to engage more companies in this endeavour and create significant development effects in the years to come.

It is expected that the SDG fund will be launched in early 2018.
