DANISH MINISTER FOR ENVIRONMENT VISITED THIKA WATER AND SEWERAGE COMPANY IN KENYA

The Danish Embassy and Annelise Boysen, Investment Director, Danida Sustainable Infrastructure Finance, accompanied the minister during the visit.

The Danish Minister for Environment Lea Wermelin visited Thika Water and Sewerage Company on 4 March 2022, during her visit to Kenya.

Danida Sustainable Infrastructure finance, which is managed by IFU, is providing grant funding for development of the Thika and Githunguri Water and Sanitation project. The works contract, which is expected to be in the range of one billion Danish Kroner (equivalent of US$ 160.000), will be financed by a subsidised loan with a 35% grant element. Consultancy services and works will be tendered to Danish companies.

The project has focus of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources such as biogas and hydro power.

Project design will commence within the next few months and the works contract is expected to be signed by the end of 2023.
