Manage counterfeits

Companies must pay attention to their rights – especially if they consider doing business abroad. IFU recommends that an active position be taken on IPR – Intellectual Property Rights – and that issues such as protection of patent, design, utility models, trademarks, copyrights etc. are thoroughly considered.

Counterfeiters - an increasing problem
During the past 10 years, copy products have become more and more widespread and they are imposing an increasing threat to Danish companies. Experts in the IPR field estimate that up to 10% of the world trade consist of copy products. Great values are at stake and the problem affects large as well as small companies. Focus on company protection through IPR is therefore of great importance. This is especially true for companies with activities in Asia, but the problem is on the rise in the rest of the world as well.

An IPR strategy gives you control
As a company it is essential to think through how to protect one’s rights. In particular this is of importance if the company strength lies within technology, brand name, reputation, design or development. The IPR strategy should ideally both consider how the company protects its rights as well as how it enforces them in case of infringement. The strategy should include all product stages – from development through the launching to the protection of the established brand. It is important always to take into consideration that rules and legislation can be different from country to country.
