Brian Muggeridge Andersen, 38, Head of IFU’s office in Nairobi.
“My most important task is to help Danish companies make the most of the resources and the commitment they invest in Africa. Danish companies’ future interest in Africa depend on whether we succeed in creating long term, successful investment projects,” says Brian Muggeridge Andersen, head of IFU’s office in Nairobi.
“it is gratifying and exiting to work close together with the companies and contribute to the success of their investments. We work to create long term partnerships with Danish Companies. IFU provides know-how to Danish investors that decide to start up businesses in Africa, but we also learn a lot from our partners - both parties benefit.”
The opening of IFU’s office in Nairobi is part of the strategy to further Danish enterprises' focus on Africa and increase their presence in the region. " The most important task of the IFU Office is to assist Danish companies with advice and guidance on the conditions that foreign investors face, particularly in East African countries, and to facilitate and raise venture capital for Danish investments in the region."
As a self-financing fund it is important that IFU’s investments produce a reasonable yield. “If IFU can make a profit on a project which a Danish company has started in Africa it is often he best indicator of the project's sustainability and viability; even after IFU has exited the project. If we get a profit so does the company. Thus one of the biggest challenges in the years to come will be to combine our increasing number of projects in Africa with a sensible risk management.”
